I believe they are still useful for Windows environment. If we remove them, we need to find another storage place. I wouldn't spend time improving the way we keep version 3.

I believe that the exact source code of the DLLs that are included in binary form in version 3 are lost. There is a source code for mjdgges.c from 2001 in the dowload section of the web site near the bottom.
For gensylv the history of the sources are in SVN for dynare++
